Resident Evil 6 Features Four Hours of Cutscenes

There are going to be a few cutscenes in Resident Evil 6 - 4 hours and 15 minutes of them, to be precise. This information comes courtesy of the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), which serves as the UK equivalent of the ESRB in the United States. Noting that Capcom's latest action/horror game features "strong violence and gore," the BBFC gave RE 6 an '18' (think 'M').

For comparison, Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 4 both feature approximately one hour of cinematics each, but there is an important distinction to be made here. Resident Evil 6 contains three separate main campaigns, with a fourth that somehow unlocks later on.

Capcom has publicly stated that the three main storylines are separately not quite as long as RE 5, but collectively they are considerably longer. Taking that into consideration, and dividing the content over the span of three or four cutscenes, and what might at first seem like an interactive movie might be a little less so.

Microsoft's ExpertZone Reveals Halo 4 Details

An educational slideshow hosted on Microsoft's ExpertZone - a site designed to bring retailers up-to-speed with its products - has revealed new information about Halo 4.

So what do we know now that we didn't already know? The quiz reveals that Halo 4 will have 10 new weapons. A couple of these - The Light rifle and Scattershot - were already revealed during Microsoft's E3 press conference. Interestingly, one of the slides reveals that  for "the first time, the Master Chief will have a true nemesis" and that players will fight against "a new race, unlike anything seen before in Halo".

There will also be "2 new vehicles plus many of your favorites from the past".

That's still a bit sketchy, admittedly. But there are some concrete details relating to Spartan Ops, which is Halo 4's TV series-style DLC experience. 50 missions will be released per 'season', with five missions dropping every week for 10 weeks. Each mission is said to be "introduced with a high-quality cinematic video so that you are well-briefed before you embark on your mission." And with series 1 of Spartan Ops is 100% free, it's being described as "like getting two campaigns with one game".

LittleEnglishHaloBlog has screens of the slides from the presentation.

Nintendo Direct Offers New Dragon Quest X Details

Dragon Quest X, the upcoming MMO-styled sequel to the long-running Square Enix RPG series, had a few new pieces of information announced during this evening's Nintendo Direct video presentation.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said that though the game will normally require players to pay for play time, the first 20 hours will be free for all new buyers of the game. There will also be free "Kids Time" play periods, two hours per day, in the afternoons in Japan. Mr. Iwata then announced there will be another event in the near future dedicated entirely to Dragon Quest X details, and promised a new 11-minute long trailer will air after the conclusion of the Nintendo Direct video tonight.

Dragon Quest X launches this August in Japan for Wii, and a Wii U version is also in development. We've yet to learn any details about American plans for the game, but perhaps NOA President Reggie Fils-Aime will address that in the North American video presentation scheduled to air in less than an hour.

E3 2012: Dust 514 Beta Date on PS3, Vita Details

Today, Icelandic developer CCP – the studio behind the tour de force MMO EVE Online – revealed new information regarding Dust 514, the upcoming free-to-play FPS coming exclusively to PlayStation 3.

For starters, the beta we reported on earlier this year is set to begin on Friday, June 29th. Gamers interested in taking part in the beta can still sign up by going here. Players “will be chosen at random to participate,” so there’s no guarantee you’ll be chosen when you sign-up.

CCP has also finally chronicled the PlayStation Vita-centric “companion app” that will launch alongside Dust 514. The official title of the application is Dust 514: Neocom, an “app [that] integrates services that incorporate the feel and functionality from Dust 514 on PlayStation 3, with a focus on customization, communication and trade. Each character can be customized and configured using Dust 514: Neocom; players can create and edit customized fittings (load-outs) with a huge variety of dropsuits, weapons, equipment, modules and vehicles.”

In other words, Dust 514: Neocom can become an integral part of your Dust 514 experience.

E3 2012: Iwata Comments on User-Created Content for Wii U

Yesterday's Nintendo Direct video presentation was packed with new information for Wii U fans to absorb, delivered so quickly that it was hard to catch every detail in just one viewing – the footage that teased a New Super Mario Bros. game for Wii U, for example, came and went in just a few seconds. In that spirit, here's one more interesting comment that company president Satoru Iwata slipped into his dialogue, and which might not have fully registered for you the first time around:

That quick phrase mentioning "game content they have created themselves" is what we're pointing out here. Mr. Iwata was so busy discussing the different applications of the Miiverse social network that it was hard to notice him basically confirming that user-created content will be a focus for Wii U.

It's not all that surprising, really. Nintendo has pushed user creativity in several high profile projects in recent years, like the "make your own video game" interface of WarioWare: D.I.Y. and the shareable custom puzzles you can build in Pushmo. Just before making that comment in the video, actually, he mentioned two other examples – Flipnote Studio and Swapnote, both recent applications that built their foundations on the creation and sharing of personal drawings.

So the question now becomes, which Wii U games will take advantage of this piece of the Miiverse, and emphasize the creation and sharing of user-created content in the next generation? It's possible we'll see one or two examples showcased in tomorrow's Tuesday morning press conference, but to give you all something to chew on until then, consider this: just a few seconds after Mr. Iwata spoke that sentence in the Nintendo Direct video, the footage for New Super Mario Bros. began.
