Trailer Leaks from Canceled Amalur MMO

A trailer for Kingdoms of Amalur MMO Project Copernicus has emerged, despite the fact that the project will never see the light of day. While screens and video of Project Copernicus leaked out months ago, new footage gives the best idea we’ve had yet of what the universe in Copernicus might have looked like.

When we last saw footage of Project Copernicus, a trailer showed a fly-through of environments that included a look at what the game’s map might have been like. New footage reveals an even more in-depth look, including a first glimpse of a few of the game’s characters. (The footage can’t be embedded, but can be seen at Kotaku.)

Project Copernicus began development in 2007 with a planned release date of 2010. A couple years later, we heard the first details about Copernicus, including the idea that it was set in a "Tolkien-esque fantasy realm."

Copernicus missed its 2010 goal and news of the MMO was scarce as 38 approached the release of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning earlier this year. Soon afterward, news of the studio’s deep financial troubles began, leading up to 38 Studios laying off its entire staff in May. Since then, news of other now-canceled projects has emerged, including a planned sequel to Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

Despite the sad ending to 38’s story, it’s fascinating to take a look at what might have been if Project Copernicus had eventually been released. For more details on the eventual demise of 38 Studios, additional details were provided in recent comments from studio founder Curt Schilling.

Premiere Date for Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

A couple weeks ago, Nickelodeon released the first trailer for its new animated reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Now, the network has set a premiere date for the CG show and will be airing two back-to-back episodes on Saturday, September 29 at 11am.

According to EW.com's Inside TV, Nick has created 26 half-hour episodes featuring a funnier, quirkier team of turtles: Leonardo (American Pie's Jason Biggs), Raphael (The Lord of the Rings' Sean Astin), Michelangelo (Teen Titan's Greg Cipes), and Donatello (Rob Paulsen, the original voice of Raphael in the '80s and '90s cartoon).

Rounding out the cast is Mae Whitman as April O'Neil, Hoon Lee as Master Splinter and Kevin Michael Richardson as Shredder.

E3 2012: The Amazing Spider-Man Game Tied to the Symbiote, Doc Ock

IGN brought you a deep dive and exclusive trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man earlier today, but we also updated our Spidey Wiki with a Scorpion bio from Activision. It's pretty normal stuff talking about his tail and claw, but the character's origin is fascinating.

"...Oscorp physicist Dr. Otto Octavius dug into Curt Connors’ research as quickly as it became available to him. Not satisfied with simply infusing human DNA into a highly venomous black fat-tailed scorpion, Octavius also threw in a touch of a mysterious, organic “black goo” of unknown origin, which Oscorp had recently retrieved from one of the company’s fallen satellites in secret. The result was Scorpion..."

Not only does Doc Ock exist in this universe, but so does this "black goo," which has to be the symbiote that goes on to become Venom in common Spider-Man lore. What makes this so interesting is that Amazing Spider-Man Producer Doug Heder talked extensively on Up at Noon about how Marvel and the movie folks had to approve everything in the game and that the game had to stay away from villains Sony Pictures might have plans for. So even though the Activision bio reads "This bio is intended only as back story. Neither Dr. Otto Octavius nor the “black goo” appear in the film The Amazing Spider-Man or its videogame," it's establishing a world. It's canon

Basically, the game could be establishing the fiction for the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man movie, and that fiction now includes Doc Ock and the symbiote in some fashion.
