Dishonored Release Is Set For October 2012 Ads By Google » Blog Tags Today's Most Popular Videos »

Dishonored

Bethesda Softworks confirms that Arkane Studios' action/stealth game Dishonored will be coming to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows PC platforms -- specifically, Games for Windows -- in North America on October 9, 2012. A European release will follow on October 12.

Dishonored puts players in the shoes of Corvo, a disgraced bodyguard who ends up on the run after he's framed for the murder of the empress he was charged with protecting. Corvo sets out to clear his name in the city in the fictional city of Dunwall, which feels like a steampunk reinterpretation of Victorian London. Early previews peg the game as a blend of Thief: Deadly Shadows and BioShock, but we should get a better sense of it once the media gets its first hands-on at E3 2012.

Dishonored debuts October 9

October lost a major release yesterday when BioShock Infinite was delayed to next year, but it gained one right back today. Bethesda Softworks this morning announced that it would launch Dishonored in North America on October 9, with an Australian release October 11 and a European debut following October 12.

Set for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, Dishonored is a first-person action game that puts players in the boots of Corvo, an assassin tasked with protecting the empress of a stylized steampunk city known as Dunwall. However, the empress is soon murdered with Corvo framed for the killing, and sinister forces grant the accused assassin supernatural abilities to pursue his revenge.

Dishonored is being developed by Arkane Studios with co-creative directors Raphael Colantonio and Harvey Smith at the helm. Colantonio was lead designer and director on Arkane's first title, the 2002 role-playing game Arx Fatalis, while Smith made his name as lead designer for Ion Storm's influential first-person action game Deus Ex. Beyond Arx Fatalis, Arkane also handled the original PC version of Ubisoft's Dark Messiah of Might and Magic in 2006. More recently, Arkane assisted 2K Marin with BioShock 2.

Elder Scrolls Online confirmed for 2013

Skyrim fans yearning to explore the game's fantasy world with other people will get the chance next year, as Bethesda Softworks today announced The Elder Scrolls Online, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game take on the long-running series, set for release in 2013.

Bethesda didn't reveal any gameplay details, but a Game Informer tease for the magazine's cover story on Elder Scrolls Online revealed that the game will be cover the entire continent of Tamriel, including the lands featured in previous Elder Scrolls games like Cyrodiil, Skyrim, and Morrowind. The game will be set 1,000 years before the events of last year's hit Skyrim, and put the players into the world on the brink of demonic assimilation at the hands of the daedric prince Molag Bal.

Elder Scrolls Online will also feature three player factions, though they were not detailed. However, a rumor that made the rounds in March and correctly predicted the game's announcement suggested that they will be represented by animals: a lion, a dragon, and an unspecified bird of prey.

The Elder Scrolls Online will be the debut game from Zenimax Online Studios, which was established five years ago with Mythic Entertainment cofounder Matt Firor (Dark Age of Camelot) heading up the operation. Firor is also serving as game director on the project.
