Earn Achievements for Burning Calories

Kinect PlayFit is now available on Xbox Live in the United States. Available on the dashboard. Kinect PlayFit tracks calories burned while playing Kinect games, including support for Dance Central 2, Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012 and Kinect Star Wars.

Players will be able to keep track of their personal stats over time, plus compare with others via global leaderboards. Achievements will unlock based on the calories you burn, as will Avatar awards.

According to Xbox Live’s Major Nelson, Kinect PlayFit is the first ever fitness tracking app on a video game console. It will be available in regions outside of the United States later this week.

This is just part of Microsoft’s continued initiative to promote fitness via Xbox Live, joining the announcement of a Nike Plus Xbox Live app during E3.

The Avengers Video Game Coming: Marvel Avengers: Battle For Earth

Marvel Avengers: Battle For Earth is coming out for the Kinect and Wii-U. Ubisoft and Marvel Entertainment announced that they are teaming up to create a game based on the blockbusting superhero tong. The title will feature more than 20 characters from the Marvel universe and is based on the “Secret Invasion” comics, not the film. We don't know the release date, but it will obviously not be out until after the Nintendo Wii-U launches.

“The idea that we’re making a motion-control version of The Avengers is a unique proposition if you compare that to superhero games of the past,” said Tony Key, Ubisoft’s vice president of sales and marketing said to The Associated Press. “This is the perfect type of game for that because these characters are very action oriented. They’re always fighting and throwing things.”

Further details on the game are scarce, but Ubisoft promises more details at this year's E3 in June. Speaking of which, G4 will be all over E3 2012, bringing you all the news, videos, and surprises you could possibly need or imagine.

Microsoft Announces $99 Xbox 360 Ads By Google » Blog Tags Today's Most Popular Videos »

Cheap Xbox

Microsoft has made its $99 Xbox official. The 360 with Kinect and a 4GB HD is available in Microsoft stores, and is only sold with a 2-year commitment to Xbox Live at $14.99 a month. Check it out on the official Microsoft site. Print the coupon and stop by a Microsoft store for the cheapest ever Xbox.

My question: is this kind of subsidized console going to catch on? We did the math, and the ultimate savings over traditional Xbox ownership is about $39 over two years, but the $15-a-month version of Gold might have some extra content.

So what do you think? Is this a good idea or not? Anyone planning on picking one up?

Microsoft confirms $99 Xbox 360

Microsoft is making it cheaper than ever to get an Xbox 360, as the console maker today confirmed a deal that will sell the 4GB Kinect-equipped Xbox 360 hardware bundle for $99 if customers commit to a two-year Xbox Live Gold subscription at a cost of $15 per month.

The deal would cost less up front, but consumers will wind up spending more in the long run. If purchased separately at today's standard prices, the console and two-year Xbox Live subscription would cost $420. If purchased under this promotion, the total cost at the end of the two years would come out to $460.

The offer is currently only available at the 21 Microsoft Store retail locations in the US. There is also an early termination fee for those who want out of the contract, with the penalty starting at $250 in the first three months of the contract and scaling down to $12 in the 23rd month.

The Xbox 360 hasn't received a price cut to its entry-level configuration since September of 2008, when the hard-drive-less Xbox 360 Arcade was dropped to $199. However, when the redesigned Xbox 360 was launched in 2010, previous bundles of the hardware were dropped by $50, putting the discontinued Xbox 360 Arcade at $149 for a brief time.

For more on the offer, check out Microsoft's offer page.
