How Certain Affinity Improved Forge for Halo 4

Forge mode is coming back in Halo 4, and it's in development at Certain Affinity, the creative house responsible for Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary and Halo: Reach map packs.

Certain Affinity based its improvements to Forge on fan feedback, allowing for more creative freedom and ease of use. Players can link duplicated objects using magnets, for instance. In the demonstration below, designers create a headquarters with a bridge, and it's built much faster than it would have been in Halo 3's or Halo Reach's Forge.

What's more, users can lock objects in place, which prevents them from accidentally deleting or ruining their designs, as was a past problem.

The most interesting addition, however, is the Trait Zone. These custom fields allow you to change the physical properties of Spartans in specific spots. In the demo above, you can see a Spartan's speed and jump height boosted, as well as other options including damage absorption, shield multiplier, and recharge rate.

Or you could just lower the gravity of the map altogether.

Is a Halo 2 HD Remake on the Way?

A new rumor suggests that 343 Industries is developing a Halo 2 Anniversary edition. According to the UK print edition of Official Xbox Magazine, "Following the success of remake Halo Anniversary, 343 Industries has now started development of Halo 2 Anniversary.”

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary hit stores last November and offered a full HD remake of the original game with added Kinect and online functionality in honor of its ten year anniversary. Halo 2 was originally released in November 2004, but Microsoft would presumably release the remake a year or two ahead of its ten year milestone.

We reached out to Microsoft for comment and a spokesperson told us “Our focus right now is on developing Halo 4. Beyond that, we do not comment on rumors or speculation.”

Spy Hunter Reboot Coming to 3DS and Vita

A reboot of arcade classic Spy Hunter is coming to Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita.

The announcement comes on the eve of the 30th anniversary of the original, with the new title promising to be the "most thrilling and dangerous ride yet". As with the original, the player will take control of the "Agent", who drives a high-tech super car equipped with advanced weaponry. His mission? Well, naturally it's to take on a global terrorist organisation with its sights set on world domination. Once again the car will be able to transform into a speed boat as well as an off-road assault vehicle.

Spy Hunter is being developed by TT Fusion and will be released this autumn.

New Harvest Moon Headed to 3DS

This year marks the 15th anniversary of when the Harvest Moon franchise first debuted on the SNES. To celebrate, Natsume announced today that a new entry in the series will be coming to 3DS by the end of the year.

Called Harvest Moon: A New Beginning, the game will place great emphasis on customization. Players will be able to fully change their character's appearance, altering their gender, skin color, facial expression, hairstyle, outfit and more. You will also be able to rearrange your crops and buildings and create things like park benches, wallpaper, furniture, pet houses, etc.

A New Beginning will take place in Echo Village, a town that most villagers have abandoned. It's up to you to make the place prosperous again, likely by way of farming and ranching.
