Will Borderlands 2 Come to PS Vita?

Rezzed is a PC and Indie games show that’s currently taking place over in the United Kingdom. And according to Eurogamer, Gearbox Software’s Randy Pitchford told an audience there that he’d “love to see a Vita version” of his upcoming game Borderlands 2.

Eurogamer categorizes Pitchford as being “excited by the idea of cloud powered connectivity between PlayStation 3 and Vita.” As such, Pitchford said he “wish[es] Sony would... get behind Borderlands.”

“I want to be able to have the character I’m working on with my PS3, and then when I’m on the road with my Vita I can just keep developing that same character because it exists on the cloud somewhere. Technologically, that’s possible.”

Unfortunately, Pitchford’s studio is occupied with the console and PC versions of Borderlands 2 and wouldn’t be able to complete a PlayStation Vita version of it on their own. “But I know there are a lot of talented developers who could take our code, our source and our content and perhaps create something like that,” Pitchford admitted. “That would be exciting to me.”

What's being pitched here -- a true cross-play shooter -- is something many PlayStation Vita gamers are clamoring for. With companies such as EA dropping the ball on how games like Madden on Vita will talk to the iteration of Madden on PS3, it would be nice to see a studio do cross-play properly.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

PlayStation Vita Sales Hit 1.8 Million Worldwide -- "Software Is The Key To Success" Ads By Google » Blog Tags Today's Most Popular Videos »

PS Vita

PlayStation Vita sales have hit 1.8 million worldwide, Sony has announced. They've also said that PS Vita software sales, both retail and digital, have passed the two million mark. To compare, the Nintendo 3DS sold 2.1 million copies from January to March 2012, but the Vita's only been out worldwide since the end of February.

Sony CEO Kaz Hirai addressed the sales figure optimistically, saying that for the Vita's starting phase, the handheld console's off to a good start. He did however stress the importance of software for the Vita, saying that it's likely to be the key to Vita's success in the long run, saying, "A game platform, like Vita – the software is the key to success, how good the software is."

"In other words, the collaborative approach is very important, so is third-party. And from first party studios, the titles will be presented one after the other, so please look at them and give your evaluation based on them," Hirai said.

The number may be a bit low, considering Sony had already sold 1.2 million Vitas by the end of February. Have you purchased the handheld since its release? If not, what would Sony have to do to get you to buy one?
