It's been a good year for Mads Mikkelsen. After winning the Best Actor prize at Cannes for The Hunt and being cast as the new villain in Thor 2, it looks like Mikkelsen has now landed the title role in NBC's upcoming drama series Hannibal.
Deadline reports that the Danish-born actor will be starring opposite Hugh Dancy (who is playing FBI agent Will Graham) in the 13-episode series written and executive produced by Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies, Star Trek: Voyager). The new show will offer a contemporary take on the classic characters from Thomas Harris' novel Red Dragon. The fictional duo will be re-introduced at the genesis of their budding relationship. Graham, who is on the search for a dangerous serial killer, enlists the help of Dr. Lecter, a brilliant psychiatric mind, with no clue of the doctor's darker side.
The part of Hannibal Lecter was originally made famous by Anthony Hopkins in The Silence of the Lambs, but the part of Graham was also previously portrayed by Edward Norton in the 2002 Red Dragon from Universal Pictures.
