Legendary game designer Ron Gilbert and Double Fine productions are working on a game together, but as yet, we have no idea what it is. But there are hints. Such interesting hints.
Today, G4 received an invitation to a see the game at E3 2012, as well as some pieces to a jigsaw puzzle. It took us many, many hours, but we finally put it together to reveal a message: "Join us. See a New Game by Ron Gilbert and Double Fine." Because we're awesome, you can see it above.
So, what does it tell us? The characters look a lot like Ron Gilbert style art, and you'll note a dark purple and black color-scheme. What does it mean? I say: It's a Maniac Mansion sequel. For no reason other than that's what I want. A Maniac Mansion sequel would be like a golden wish riding the shoulders of a happy Cyclops.
We do know Gilbert has been working on something at Double Fine for over a year, and has posted that the game he's working on has at least two playable characters, contains both an old carnival ticket booth and a ceiling mounted laser cannon, and "predates Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island." Ok... let's say a Maniac Mansion prequel, then.
All of the best people are following Stephen Johnson's twitter feed. Also, email me if you wanna.
